A Wish for Peace

On this Day of Atonement, Yom Hakippurim, 5764 of the Jewish Calendar, pray that our enemies will soften their hearts; that our friends will allow us to build a border like any other country; to defend ourselves like any other country; to exist, like any other country; to spend our religious holidays thanking G-d
for our blessings not mourning the senseless
continuation of slaughter in the name of Allah.

May those who write about us for once in their lives tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth of our suffering despite our constant willingness to live at peace with our neighbours.

I will spend tonight and tomorrow cleansing my heart and praying for the good of the world. I will pray for greater understanding and the vague, distant possibility that Israel will no longer need an army to defend herself.

The names of 18 victims have been released. Among the names you will see Jews and Arabs- Christian and Moslem because in Maxims Restaurant which is owned by an Israeli Arab, as in most of the targeted restaurants, we all live together in harmony:

Five members of the Almog family from Haifa:
Maj.-Gen. (res) Ze'ev Almog, 71, his wife Ruti, 70,
their son Moshe, 43, and grandsons Assaf and Tomer, two siblings and their children are in hospital in serious condition
Five members of the Zer-Aviv family from Kibbutz
Yagur: Bruria, 59; her son Bezalel, 30, and his wife Keren, 29, with their children Liran, 4, and Noya, 1

Zvi Bahat, 35, of Haifa
Mark Biano, 29, of Haifa, and his wife Naomi, 25
Hana Francis, 40, of Fassouta, maitre d'
Mutanus Karkabi, 29, of Haifa, the security guard
Sherbel Matar, 23, of Fassouta
Osama Najar, 27, of Haifa
Nir Regev, 25, of Nahariya

May their souls rest in peace, may their families know no more suffering. Please G-d heal the injured that they may forget the scenes of horror they have witnessed.
